Maple Leaf Gardens Redux

There is perhaps no more famous hockey rink in Canada, or maybe the world, than Maple Leaf Gardens. Built in 1931, it was home to the Leafs for decades, and hosted enough major events and concerts to fill dozens of scrapbooks. But by 1999, the Leafs had played their last game there, and the fate of the Gardens was up in the air.

Today, Maple Leaf Gardens still lives – as Ryerson’s athletic centre. Get past the grocery store on ground level, and it boasts an athletic centre and basketball court above, and, up top, a hockey rink. Here’s a look at the Gardens today. – Barry Gray
