Hamilton , Ontario ,Dec. 29,2014 -A Snowy owl departs from his perch atop a pole along Ofield Road South in Dundas. Snowy Owls breed on the Arctic tundra but are being seen more frequently in this area when snow cover up north makes it harder to hunt. Their summer habitat usually includes open fields similar to the area that this bird was photographed. Unlike most owls Snowy Owls are diurnal meaning they hunt both night and day.
