It’s Wednesday night at Pier 4 Park in Hamilton. Car buffs and antique enthusiasts wander a maze of brightly coloured cars. Whitewall tires abound. Fuzzy dice hang from mirrors. No plastic bumpers here — this world is awash in chrome. On stage, the Hellbent Rockers bring the sounds of the ’50s alive.
The calendar might say 2016, but on this night, they’ve turned back the clock. Rockin’ The Waterfront Cruise Nights are a showcase for all manner of “classic” cars, pre-1980 vintage. From convertibles to hot rods, and everything in between; Fairlane, Bel Air, Studebaker. Names long gone in a world that sometimes seems dominated by minvans.
The weekly nostalgia trips on the waterfront feature a different theme and entertainment each week. A fundraiser for the Shriners, Cruise Night provides an escape to a simpler time when AM radio ruled the airwaves and cars were king. – Barry Gray
